Jesús Rubio Gamo (Madrid, 1982) is an independent dancer and choreographer based in Madrid. After studying ballet and contemporary dance and graduating at the Royal School of Dramatic Art, Jesús was awarded with a MAE-AECI grant to develop dance studies in a foreign country. He moved to London where he completed an MA in choreography at London Contemporary Dance School (Distinction). He has also studied an MA in Performative Studies at Museo Nacional de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid. His work has been presented at National and International Festivals (such as Escena Contemporánea, Madrid; GREC, Barcelona; Touch Wood, London; Brighton International Festival; OperaEstate, Bassano dell Grappa; FAEL, Lima), in theatres and museums (CA2M – Madrid, Artium – Vitoria, Pablo Serrano – Zaragoza); at non conventional spaces and in the street. Compulsive beauty seeker, he never stops finding violence and sarcasm and that dichotomy is one of the main driving forces of his work. In London, he was commissioned to work for dance and theatre groups EDge, Zebfontaine and Roehampton University touring company. He has been artist in residence in institutions such as La Casa Encendida (Madrid), The Place (London) or La Caldera (Barcelona). Jesús is currently developing KIDNAPPING EUROPE, an international artistic project which searches for an emotional and collective European memory.
