Janet Novas is a Galician artist , choreographer and performer. She lives in Madrid since 2001. She has studied contemporary dance between Madrid , Brussels and Berlin . In 2008 she begins to create and develop her own projects leading to self- experimentation and research. Her work is constructed from observation, experience and dialogue with her body as the main tool, relying on its own language , shaping the emotional content and the aesthetic simplicity that characterize her work.
Her creations Se va del Aire , Marieta, Cara pintada y Who will save me today?” has been presented in prestigious national and international festivals such as Rencontres Chorégraphiques , Festival de Marseille , Festival Nouvelles – Pole Sud , Cement Festival, Dança en Transito , MOV_S , TNT Dansa, Mes de Danza Sevilla, XXV Festival Madrid en Danza” and also selected with her last work “Who will save me today?” by the Alternative Theatre Network, Network Galician Theatre and Auditorium and Platea Program.
As a choreographer has received several awards throughout her career. Among them the 2nd prize in the XXI Certamen Coreográfico de Madrid, the scholarship danceWEBeurope 2008 and the prize INJUVE 2011 with her work Cara pintada.
.The year 2011 is selected to develop the choreographic research project ChoreoRoam Europe,this is an international choreographic research proyect organized by The Place (London),Operastate Festival Veneto (Italy),Dansateliers (Holland), Zagreb Dance Center (Croatia) and Certamen Coreográfico (Madrid). She has collaborated as advisor for the Daniel Abreu Company with the creationof Animal and Otros rostros.
As a performer she has worked for prestigious companies such as Lisi Estarás (Les Ballets C de la B ), Daniel Abreu , Pablo Esbert, La Intrusa, Provisional Danza Pisando Ovos, Pedro Berdayes and Ertza. She has also collaborated in the third edition Bailar ¿es lo que queréis? curated by Elena Córdona, Ana Buitrago y Jaime Conde Salazar, and “ El canto de los caballos” directed by Lipi Hernández
Janet currently collaborates with different artists and collectives such Play Dramaturgia, Pablo Esbert, Jamie Lee and Stanislav Dovak. Janet Novás alternates her work as a dancer and choreographer with a teacher, giving classes and workshops in different centers in Spain, Europe, South America and Asia.
